# E35 Protocol Spec (summary)

- CAIO schema: see `E35_CAIO_SCHEMA.json`.
- Integrity states: VERIFIED, DEGRADED, REVALIDATION_REQUIRED, CONTESTED, QUARANTINED, REVOKED, UNKNOWN.
- Transitions: becoming VERIFIED always requires revalidation evidence; UNKNOWN cannot jump to VERIFIED.
- Drift: material roots force revalidation; non-material roots do not.
- Fork: two divergent integrity states from the same parent are detectable (CONTESTED).
- Temporal: integrity is epoch- and freshness-bound; current state overrides stale state.
- Gate: BLOCK unless integrity valid AND authorization current AND envelope IN_SCOPE; UNKNOWN fails closed.
