CAIN ExploitGym Escape Shield, explained for beginners
The Escape Shield blocks agents from grabbing cloud credentials and Kubernetes tokens, even when the address is disguised.
What it is
A common way to take over a cloud workload is to make the agent fetch the cloud's metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254), which hands out credentials, or read the Kubernetes service-account token.
The shield checks every URL and path in the action. Metadata addresses are caught even when written as a decimal number; token paths, template injection and deep traversal are blocked. Repeated blocked attempts from the same agent within an hour block that agent's later actions too.
An everyday comparison
A guard who knows the back doors to the vault and won't let anyone walk toward them.
How it works, in 4 steps
- The agent proposes an action.
- Every URL and path is checked.
- Known attack patterns: BLOCKED.
- Repeat offenders are blocked for the hour.
